About EMCLab

The fusion of microcontrollers and machine learning empowers tiny smart devices to become responsive, secure, and bandwidth-efficient, by deploying deep neural networks (DNNs) for on-device inference, thus giving rise to 'TinyML.' Advancements in energy harvesting creates an emerging intermittent computing paradigm, where applications are intermittently executed using the weak and unstable harvested ambient energy, but pose new challenges for TinyML's sophisticated applications that cannot be addressed by existing designs of battery-powered systems. Solving such challenges can further expand the scope of TinyML, integrating it into our everyday life, but also raises several environmental sustainability concerns. We conduct scientific and engineering research focusing on the critical challenges of future sustainable TinyML designs. To give consideration to both academic value and practical use, we are devoted to not only original design concepts and system implementations but also theoretical derivation and analysis.
